Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, Jesús Owono has been named Man of the Match after helping the team to a 1-1 draw against the Super Eagles in today’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group A game.
Owono, who plays for La Liga club Deportivo Alavés was at his best mettle as he stopped virtually all the attacks that the Super Eagles mounted on him.
Ivan Salvador opened the scoring with a fine finish to stun the Super Eagles.
But the three-time African champions were level within two minutes, with Victor Osimhen rising highest to head home Ademola Lookman’s cross.
Owono made six impressive interventions, saving 5 shots from the penalty area.
The Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, had earlier on vowed to stop Osimhen and the entire Super Eagles of Nigeria from getting a positive result and he lived to his promise.
Equatorial Guinea is now on 2nd position in Group A tallied with Nigeria on one point each after their 1-all draw.
On top is Ivory Coast with 3 points after thrashing bottom placed Guinea-Bissau.
